Disclosure: PricePing makes this free tool. It runs entirely in your browser: nothing you type is sent anywhere or saved, and there is no sign-up.
How to use it
- Copy the Amazon link. On the product page, copy the address from the browser's address bar, or tap Share and Copy in the Amazon app.
- Paste it into the cleaner. Paste the link, or the whole share message, into the box. The clean link appears straight away.
- Copy the clean link. Tap Copy link. You get https://www.amazon.<store>/dp/<ASIN>, which opens the same product page without the extra parameters.
What the cleaner removes
A product link copied from Amazon is often hundreds of characters long. Only two parts of it pick the product: the store (amazon.com, amazon.ae…) and the ASIN after /dp/. The cleaner keeps those and drops the rest:
- the product name in the path, which Amazon ignores;
ref=segments and parameters such asqid,sr,cridandkeywords, which can record what you searched for and where the product sat in the results;- an affiliate
tagsomeone else added. The cleaner never adds one of its own.
The result looks like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08N5WRWNW: short enough to text, and it doesn’t share your search with whoever you send it to.
Short links: amzn.to, amzn.eu and a.co
Amazon’s share button often gives a short link instead. A short link is only a pointer: the product ID isn’t in it, and the only way to find out where it leads is to ask Amazon’s server. This page never sends what you paste anywhere, so it says so instead of guessing. Open the short link, then copy the full address from the product page.
Cleaning a link to keep an eye on the price?
The PricePing app can do the watching. Share the product from the Amazon app or Safari to PricePing (short links are fine there), pick an alert, and get a ping when the price drops. It works with Amazon stores in many countries and almost any other online store. See the Amazon price tracker app guide.
Questions
How do I shorten an Amazon link?
Keep only the store and the product ID: https://www.amazon.com/dp/ followed by the 10-character ASIN. Everything else in a long Amazon link (the product name, ref=, qid=, sr=, keywords= and the rest) is optional. Paste the link into this cleaner and it builds the short form for you.
What is an ASIN?
The Amazon Standard Identification Number: a 10-character code, such as B08N5WRWNW, that Amazon gives each product. For books it is usually the ISBN-10. It appears after /dp/ or /gp/product/ in a product link.
Does this tool send my link anywhere or add an affiliate tag?
No. The cleaner runs entirely in your browser, nothing you paste is sent to PricePing or anyone else, and it never adds an affiliate tag. If the link you paste already carries someone else's affiliate tag (tag=), the cleaner removes it and tells you.
Can it expand amzn.to, amzn.eu or a.co short links?
No. A short link doesn't contain the product ID; only Amazon's server knows where it points, and asking it would mean sending your link to a server, which this tool never does. Open the short link, copy the address of the product page it lands on, and paste that. The one exception is amzn.com/<ASIN>, which already contains the ID.
Which Amazon stores does it work with?
Amazon's stores including amazon.com, .ca, .com.mx, .com.br, .co.uk, .de, .fr, .it, .es, .nl, .se, .pl, .com.be, .com.tr, .ie, .ae, .sa, .eg, .in, .co.jp, .sg, .com.au and .co.za. The clean link keeps the store you pasted.
Will the clean link open the same size or colour?
Usually. When you pick a size or colour, Amazon normally puts that variant's own ASIN in the link, and the clean link keeps it. If the page opens on a different variant, choose it again and copy the link once more.
