The short answer
To track a price on any website, use a tool that works from the product’s link rather than from a list of supported stores. On iPhone, PricePing, the iPhone price tracker app, does this: share the product page to it from Safari or the store’s app, choose an alert, and get a push notification when the price drops. For free, a web page monitor such as Visualping or Distill can watch the price area of any page and email you when it changes. Store-specific trackers like Keepa and camelcamelcamel are excellent, but only for Amazon.
Four kinds of price tracker, and what each covers
| Kind | Examples | Stores it covers | Cost | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Link-based price tracker app | PricePing (iPhone) | Almost any online store with a product page | PricePing: subscription, 7-day free trial on monthly plans | Checks run on a schedule, not live; history starts when you add the product |
| Web page change monitor | Visualping, Distill | Any page you can open, because it watches the page, not the product | Free tiers (Visualping: 150 checks a month across 5 pages; Distill: 25 monitors, 5 in the cloud) | Alerts on any change to the area you pick; it does not know what a price is |
| Tracker built into a search engine or shopping extension | Google's Track price, PayPal Honey Droplist | Products Google lists in Shopping; the sites where Honey's button appears | Free | Google's is in 5 countries; Droplist is not available on every site |
| Single-store tracker | Keepa, camelcamelcamel | Amazon only | Free for shoppers | No other stores, but years of Amazon price history |
Option 1: a price tracker that takes any link
This is the simplest route when you shop on your phone. With PricePing:
- Open the product in Safari, another browser, or the store’s own app.
- Tap Share and choose PricePing, or copy the link and paste it in the app.
- Choose an alert: Any drop, Below a price, or a % drop.
- PricePing checks the price at least once a day, and pings you when a check finds a drop that matches. The product’s price history builds from the day you add it.
It reads the price itself, in the store’s currency, so a changed banner or a new photo does not set it off. Its Stock alerts, on by default, also ping you when a product sells out and when it comes back in stock. PricePing has read prices from Amazon, Nike, Zara, Uniqlo, Lululemon, Allbirds, Gymshark, Gorman, Noon, Namshi and many other stores, including independent Shopify shops. If you find the same product at more than one shop, you can add the other stores’ links to it (up to five stores per product) and PricePing marks the one with the best price.
Option 2: a free web page monitor
Visualping and Distill watch web pages for changes. They don’t know what a price is; they watch the part of the page you point them at. That makes them the most general tool there is, and the noisiest.
- Create a free account and install the tool’s browser extension on a computer.
- Open the product page and start a new monitor.
- Select only the price on the page, not the whole page, so a new banner doesn’t alert you.
- Pick how often to check and where alerts go (email on both free plans).
Mind the free limits. Visualping’s free plan is 150 checks a month across 5 pages, so checking 5 pages daily uses all of it. Distill’s free plan has 25 monitors, but only 5 run in its cloud when your computer is off, at most every 6 hours, with 1,000 cloud checks and 30 email alerts a month. Any change to the selected area alerts you, including a price that went up.
Option 3: the trackers you may already have
- Google’s Track price. Search for the product on Google, open its product card and tap Track price, optionally with a target price. You get a push notification through the Google app and an email when it drops. It only covers products Google lists, and Google says price tracking is available in the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and India.
- PayPal Honey’s Droplist. On a product page, click Honey’s button and add the item to Droplist with the price you want. Honey emails you when it detects a drop. Honey says Droplist is not available on every site, and Droplist in its mobile app is for US members.
- Keepa and camelcamelcamel. If the product is on Amazon, both are free and have years of price history that no link-based tracker can match. Neither tracks other stores.
What “any website” really means
No tool reads every page. A price shown only after you sign in, add to basket or pick an option can defeat any tracker, and some stores block automated visits. PricePing tells you when it could not read a price on a page. For a page that no price tracker can read, a web page monitor watching the visible text is the fallback.
Which one to pick
- You shop on your iPhone, across several stores
- A link-based tracker such as PricePing: one list, one alert per product, push notifications.
- You want free and only watch a few pages
- A web page monitor’s free tier, with only the price selected.
- It is on Amazon
- Look it up on Keepa or camelcamelcamel first for the price history, whatever else you use.
- You live in the US, Canada, Australia, Japan or India and the product is on Google Shopping
- Google’s Track price is free and already on your phone.
PricePing’s US prices: Personal (20 products) $4.99/month or $39.99/year; Power (50) $7.99/month or $59.99/year. 7-day free trial on monthly plans. US prices. The App Store shows your local price.
PricePing’s limits, honestly
- It is a subscription with no free tier. Monthly plans start with a 7-day free trial; yearly plans don’t have one.
- It is iPhone only for now. Android is in testing.
- Price history starts when you add a product. It can’t show what the price was last year.
- Prices are checked at least once a day, not every second, so alerts are not instant.
Questions
Is there a price tracker that works on any website?
No tool reads every page, but two kinds come close. A link-based price tracker app, such as PricePing, the iPhone price tracker app, reads the price from almost any store's product page you share to it. A web page monitor, such as Visualping or Distill, watches a part of any page you choose and tells you when it changes, price or not.
What is the best free way to track a price on any website?
A web page monitor's free tier. Visualping's free plan gives 150 checks a month across 5 pages, and Distill's free plan has 25 monitors, 5 of them running in the cloud. You select the price on the page and get an alert when that part changes. They are not price-aware, so a changed label or layout can also trigger an alert.
Why don't Keepa and camelcamelcamel work on other websites?
Both are Amazon price trackers. Keepa covers 11 Amazon marketplaces and camelcamelcamel covers 8. Products from Zara, Nike or a brand's own shop are outside them.
Which stores does PricePing work with?
Almost any online store. PricePing has read prices from Amazon, Nike, Zara, Uniqlo, Lululemon, Allbirds, Gymshark, Gorman, Noon, Namshi and many other stores, including independent Shopify shops, each in the store's own currency.
What if a price tracker can't read a page?
It happens with every tool: prices shown only after you sign in, or built in ways a tracker cannot read, can fail. PricePing tells you when it could not read a price on a page. For a page no price tracker can read, a web page monitor that watches the visible text is the fallback.
