Disclosure: PricePing makes this page, and PricePing is one of the options in it. If you want a list to share with family and friends, another app on this page fits better, and we say which. Facts about other apps come from their App Store listings and help pages (see Sources).
The short answer
A store’s own wishlist only covers that store, and whether it tells you about a price drop depends on the store. For one list across shops, use a universal wishlist app such as Moonsift (free, with price alerts and shareable gift lists) or a price tracker app such as PricePing, the iPhone price tracker app, which gives each item its own alert and a price history. Pick the wishlist app if you share the list; pick the tracker if the list is for buying at the right price.
The options side by side
| Stores | Price alerts | Sharing | Cost | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A store's own wishlist | That one store | Depends on the store | Depends on the store | Free |
| Moonsift | Any store, according to its App Store listing | Price alerts on saved items | Gift lists you share with a link | Free |
| PayPal Honey Droplist | Sites where Honey's button appears; not every site | When the price falls below the amount you choose | No | Free |
| PricePing | Almost any online store, shared from Safari or the store's app | Any drop, below a price, or a % drop, per product; sold-out and back-in-stock alerts; price history | No: it is your own watch list | Subscription, 7-day free trial on monthly plans |
Store wishlists: good for one shop
Most big stores let you save items to a wishlist or favourites, and some send sale emails. It costs nothing and you are already signed in. The catch is that you end up with one list per store, and you can’t count on any of them to tell you when a particular item drops.
Universal wishlist apps: good for sharing
Moonsift is a free wishlist and gift-list app. Its App Store listing says you can add items from any store, get price alerts and share lists with a link. That makes it the natural choice for a Christmas or birthday list that other people will buy from.
PayPal Honey’s Droplist works the same way from the browser: click Honey’s button on a product page, set the price you want, and Honey emails you when it drops. Honey says Droplist is not available on every site.
A price tracker as your wishlist: good for buying well
If the list is for you, a price tracker does more with each item. With PricePing:
- Open the item in Safari or the store’s app and tap Share, then PricePing. Or paste the link in the app. It goes into your Watching list with its name, picture and price.
- Give each item its own alert: Any drop for the thing you will buy soon anyway, Below a price for the one you would buy at $90, % drop for a real markdown.
- If the same item is sold by another shop, add that store’s link to it (up to five stores per product). PricePing marks the store with the best price. Each store link counts as one product toward your plan.
- Get a push notification when a check finds a drop that matches, and look at the item’s price history before you buy.
PricePing has read prices from Amazon, Nike, Zara, Uniqlo, Lululemon, Allbirds, Gymshark, Gorman, Noon, Namshi and many other stores, each in the store’s own currency. Its Stock alerts, on by default, ping you when an item sells out and when it comes back in stock. It has no gift lists and no sharing. Its US prices: Personal (20 products) $4.99/month or $39.99/year; Power (50) $7.99/month or $59.99/year. 7-day free trial on monthly plans. US prices. The App Store shows your local price.
Tips for a wishlist that saves money
- Save the product page, not a search. Track the exact item, in your size or colour if it has its own link.
- Decide your price when you add it. It is easier to set a target calmly than to judge a sale banner later.
- Prune it. If you would not buy an item even at a good discount, take it off; alerts for things you don’t want are noise.
PricePing’s limits, honestly
- It is a subscription with no free tier. Monthly plans start with a 7-day free trial; yearly plans don’t have one.
- It is iPhone only for now. Android is in testing.
- Price history starts when you add a product. It can’t show what the price was last year.
- Prices are checked at least once a day, not every second, so alerts are not instant.
Questions
Is there a wishlist app that tracks prices?
Yes. Universal wishlist apps such as Moonsift let you save items from any store and get price alerts, and price tracker apps such as PricePing, the iPhone price tracker app, keep a list of the things you want from almost any store and notify you when a price drops the way you asked.
What is the best free wishlist app that tracks prices?
Moonsift is free, works with any store according to its App Store listing, and adds price alerts and shareable gift lists. PayPal Honey's Droplist is also free but works only on sites where Honey's button appears.
Should I use a wishlist app or a price tracker?
Use a wishlist app if the list is for other people, such as a birthday or Christmas list you share. Use a price tracker if the list is for you and the point is to buy each thing at a good price: you get an alert rule per item and a price history to judge the deal.
Can I share my PricePing list as a gift list?

How many items can I keep in PricePing?
20 products on the Personal plan and 50 on the Power plan. Each store link counts as one product toward your plan, and one product can have up to five stores.
