The short answer
For Amazon, look the product up on Keepa or camelcamelcamel: both are free and show prices from before you started watching. For other stores, Chrome’s Shopping Insights panel on a computer shows a price history when Google can match the product. For everything else there is usually no public history, so start one: add the product to a price tracker today. PricePing, the price tracker app for iPhone and Android, records the price from almost any online store each time it checks, at least once a day.
Where a price history comes from
| Source | Covers | How far back | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keepa | Amazon, in 11 countries | Years, for many products | Free app for shoppers |
| camelcamelcamel | Amazon, in 8 countries | From before you start watching | Free |
| Shopping Insights in Chrome | Products Google can match across the web, in the US, Canada, Australia, Japan and India | Google's merchant help describes the chart as the past 90 days | Free |
| A price tracker you start yourself (PricePing) | Almost any online store, from a link | From the day you add the product | Subscription, 7-day free trial on monthly plans |
Keepa’s App Store listing names Amazon in the US, Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Canada, Japan, India, Mexico and Brazil. camelcamelcamel names the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, Spain, France, Italy and Australia. Neither covers Amazon.ae, or stores other than Amazon.
How to check it, step by step
- If it is on Amazon, look it up on Keepa or camelcamelcamel. Paste the Amazon link or search for the product on keepa.com or camelcamelcamel.com, or open it in the Keepa app. Both show a price chart from before you started watching (Keepa's often goes back years), so you can see the lowest price and how often it drops.
- For other stores on a computer, open Shopping Insights in Chrome. In Chrome on a computer, in a supported country, signed in with sync and 'Make searches and browsing better' turned on, open the product page and select Shopping Insights in the address bar. When Google can match the product, the side panel shows its price history and typical price range across stores.
- If nobody has a history, start one today. Most store websites don't publish past prices. Add the product to a price tracker now, and every check adds a point to its history. With PricePing, the price tracker app for iPhone and Android, you share the product page to it from Safari or the store's app.
- Read the chart before you trust a sale. Compare today's price with the lowest and the usual price in the history, not with the crossed-out price on the page. A sale that only returns the price to where it sat last month is not a deal.
Why most stores have no price history you can look up
Amazon is the exception because Keepa and camelcamelcamel have recorded its prices for years. Most other stores, from fashion brands to Shopify shops to Gulf stores such as Noon and Namshi, show only today’s price, and a “was” price that the store chose. Google covers part of the gap where it can match a product across sellers, in the countries it supports. For the rest, the only history is the one you record from now on.
Starting a price history with PricePing
- Open the product in Safari or in the store’s app.
- Tap Share and choose PricePing, or copy the link and paste it in the app.
- PricePing reads the price and keeps checking it at least once a day (our servers every 12 to 24 hours, and your phone can check more often). Each reading is added to the product’s price history.
- Pick an alert if you want one: Any drop, Below a price, or % drop. Stock alerts, on by default, also tell you when it sells out and when it is back in stock.
Each store link counts as one product toward your plan. PricePing’s US prices: Personal (20 products) $4.99/month or $39.99/year; Power (50) $7.99/month or $59.99/year. 7-day free trial on monthly plans. US prices. The App Store shows your local price.
What to look for in a price history
- The lowest price. If today’s sale price is above a price the item reached recently, you may see it lower again.
- The usual price. A discount measured from a “was” price that rarely appears in the history is not much of a discount.
- A rise before a sale. A price that goes up a few weeks before an event and then “drops” back is a pattern a chart shows at a glance.
Black Friday 2026 is November 27, so a history started now covers the weeks before it. See the Black Friday price tracking guide, are Black Friday deals real? and how to spot a fake discount.
PricePing’s limits, honestly
- It is a subscription with no free tier. Monthly plans start with a 7-day free trial; yearly plans don’t have one.
- Price history starts when you add a product. It can’t show what the price was last year.
- Prices are checked at least once a day, not every second, so alerts are not instant.
Questions
How can I see the price history of an item?
For Amazon, look the product up on Keepa or camelcamelcamel, which are free and show prices from before you started watching. For other stores, Shopping Insights in Chrome on a computer shows a price history when Google can match the product, in the US, Canada, Australia, Japan and India. Where no history exists, start one: add the product to a price tracker such as PricePing, the price tracker app for iPhone and Android, and it records the price from that day on.
Can I check the price history on any website?
Not after the fact. Most store websites don't show past prices, and no tool has a history for every product on every site. What works on almost any website is starting your own: a price tracker that takes a link records the price each time it checks, so the history grows from the day you add the product.
Is there a free price history checker?
Yes, for some products. Keepa and camelcamelcamel are free for Amazon. Shopping Insights in Chrome is free for products Google can match, in the countries where it works. PricePing is not free: it is a subscription with a 7-day free trial on monthly plans.
Can PricePing show what an item cost last year?
No. PricePing's price history starts on the day you add a product and grows with every check, at least once a day. To see an Amazon product's older prices, use Keepa or camelcamelcamel alongside it.
How far back does Chrome's price history go?
Google's Merchant Center help describes the Shopping Insights chart as showing how the price changed over the past 90 days. It appears only for products Google can match, and only when you are signed in to Chrome in a supported country.
