Disclosure: PricePing makes this page, and PricePing is the alternative it describes. Capital One Shopping is not affiliated with PricePing. Facts about it come from its help center, its App Store listing and Capital One’s own article, checked on October 21, 2026 (see Sources).
The short answer
Capital One Shopping’s price tracking is passive. Capital One says it keeps track of items you’ve viewed and may notify you when a price drops, and its App Store listing says you’ll be notified when items you want go on sale or are found elsewhere for less. Its help pages don’t describe choosing a target price or seeing a price history. If you want to pick the products and the price that triggers the alert, use a price tracker app. PricePing, the price tracker app for iPhone and Android, gives each product its own alert (any drop, below a price, or a percentage drop) and a price chart, at almost any online store.
What Capital One Shopping does well
- It is free, and you don’t need a Capital One account or card.
- At checkout it tests promo codes and applies the best one it finds.
- On Amazon product pages, its browser extension looks for better offers from other sellers, including shipping and taxes.
- It earns Shopping Rewards on eligible purchases, which you redeem for gift cards.
- Its help center says price drop notifications can come even after you’ve bought an item, which can help with a store’s price adjustment or return window.
Where a price tracker fits better
- You choose the trigger. Capital One Shopping’s help pages don’t describe a way to set one. A price tracker lets you say “only below $80” or “only after 15% off”.
- You choose the list. Capital One Shopping watches what you have viewed. A tracker watches exactly the products you add, and nothing else.
- You see the history. A price chart per product shows whether a sale is really low before you buy.
- No extension needed. Capital One Shopping’s terms say it may withhold rewards and other features if its browser extension or app isn’t installed, and that ad blockers, VPNs or private browsing can stop it confirming a purchase. A link-based tracker only needs the product link you give it.

How to track a price with PricePing
- Install PricePing, the price tracker app for iPhone and Android, and allow notifications.
- Open the product in Safari or the store’s app, tap Share and choose PricePing, or copy the link and paste it in the app.
- Pick an alert: Any drop, Below a price, or % drop.
- PricePing checks the price at least once a day (our servers every 12 to 24 hours, and your phone can check more often) and sends a push notification when a check finds a drop that matches. Stock alerts, on by default, also ping you on sell-out and when it is back in stock.
Each store link counts as one product toward your plan. PricePing’s US prices: Personal (20 products) $4.99/month or $39.99/year; Power (50) $7.99/month or $59.99/year. 7-day free trial on monthly plans. US prices. The App Store shows your local price.
Using both
They do different jobs. Keep Capital One Shopping for coupons, rewards and a better-price check when you are about to buy; use PricePing to wait for the price you want on the handful of things you are planning to buy. Before Black Friday on November 27, 2026, adding those products now gives you a few weeks of price history to judge the deals against.
PricePing’s limits, honestly
- It is a subscription with no free tier. Monthly plans start with a 7-day free trial; yearly plans don’t have one.
- Price history starts when you add a product. It can’t show what the price was last year.
- Prices are checked at least once a day, not every second, so alerts are not instant.
Questions
Does Capital One Shopping have a price tracker?
It has price drop notifications. Capital One's own article says Capital One Shopping keeps track of items you've viewed and may send you a notification when a price drops, and its help center says this works even on items after you buy them. Its help center and App Store listing don't describe setting a target price or a percentage, or a price history chart.
Is Capital One Shopping free?
Yes. Its help center says it is free to everyone and you don't need a Capital One bank account or card. It makes money from commissions when you make eligible purchases from merchants, some of which it shares with you as Shopping Rewards.
Does Capital One Shopping work outside the US?
Partly. Its help center says the full set of features is for United States addresses, that it has added more features in Canada, the UK and Australia, and that features may be limited elsewhere.
What is a good Capital One Shopping alternative for price drop alerts?
If what you want is an alert on specific products, at a price you choose, PricePing, the price tracker app for iPhone and Android, is built for that: share a product link, pick Any drop, Below a price or % drop, and get a push notification when a check finds it. It works with almost any online store. Keep Capital One Shopping if coupons, rewards and checkout price comparisons matter more to you; you can use both.
Is PricePing free like Capital One Shopping?
